This technical note describes recommendations to consider when upgrading to Reflection for IBM 2007.
Reflection 2008 products are available beginning in November 2008.
This note includes the following topics:
Previous versions of Reflection for IBM are automatically removed by the Reflection for IBM 2007 installer.
Reflection for IBM 2007 will not install on a machine where a Reflection Suite is already installed; the following error message will display:
Figure 1. Installation Error 'The previous version of Reflection must be uninstalled first before installing Reflection 2007.'Click OK and you will see this error message: Installation failed. The error code was: 1603.
You must remove the Reflection Suite product in Add/Remove Programs before you install Reflection for IBM 2007. Note: Reflection 2007 does not currently provide connectivity to UNIX, OpenVMS, or HP hosts, nor does it provide PC X server functionality, so if you require connectivity to any of these resources, you should install Reflection for IBM 2007 to a separate machine and leave the Suite installed on your current machine. See Connecting to the Host for available connection types in Reflection for IBM 2007.
The Reflection 2007 installer does not automatically remove previous EXTRA! versions. However, you can specify whether to remove previous versions within the Customization Tool (special mode of setup.exe). For more information on the Customization Tool, see http://www.attachmate.com/docs/reflection/2007/R1/Guide/admin_install_tool_ov.htm.
For a list of the legacy Reflection and EXTRA! files supported in Reflection for IBM 2007, see Technical Note 2193.
Reflection 2007 supports running legacy EXTRA! and Reflection macros. To run a legacy Reflection macro, follow these steps:
Note: Legacy Reflection macros are not saved in Reflection 2007 settings files. They will always run from the legacy Reflection settings or macro files.
For information about installing and deploying Reflection for IBM 2007, see the Administrator's Reference in the Reflection 2007 Help Guide available in the product and online at http://www.attachmate.com/docs/reflection/2007/R1/Guide/admin_ch.htm.
Running the Reflection for IBM 2007 setup.exe will automatically remove earlier versions of Reflection for IBM; this is a required step. If, however, you are deploying the Reflection 2007 installer package (*.msi) file directly (for example, if you are using a third-party tool to deploy the update), you must first manually uninstall the earlier version Reflection.
The command to manually remove Reflection for IBM varies depending on your version of Reflection.
For version 14.0: MSIEXEC /X {BF9F6FB0-C999-4D19-BED0-144F77E2A9D6}
For version 13.0: MSIEXEC /X {37F5C14E-64DB-4273-8A6F-C34B702C1F1F}
If you need to remove an earlier version, contact Technical Support (http://support.attachmate.com/contact/?prod=reflection).
Reflection 2007 requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of this prerequisite software are distributed with Reflection 2007.
If you use the Reflection 2007 installer (setup.exe), the wizard determines whether the system has the .NET Framework, and automatically installs it if necessary.
If you are deploying Reflection 2007 installer package (*.msi) file directly, you must first deploy .NET 3.0 as a separate package to workstations where it is not installed. (Note: The .NET Framework is included in Windows Vista.)
The Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) version 3.1 is distributed with Reflection 2007. This applies to Windows XP only. (Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 already include a later version.)
If you use the Reflection 2007 installer (setup.exe) on Windows XP, the wizard determines whether Windows Installer 3.1 is installed, and will update it automatically if necessary.
If you are deploying a Reflection 2007 installer package (*.msi) file directly, or are deploying Reflection 2007 from an administrative install, Windows Installer 3.1 will not be installed automatically on Windows XP. Windows Installer 3.1 is optional, but Attachmate recommends updating your version to take full advantage of Windows Installer 3.1 features. Deploy Windows Installer 3.1 as a separate package to Windows XP workstations where it is not installed.
With Reflection 2007 providing 3270 and 5250 terminal emulation, you can use your PC to connect to:
