This technical note describes how to deploy and manage EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 with an existing MCS version 2.2 or 3.0 installation.
Follow the steps in this technical note to deploy and manage EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 with your existing MCS installation version 2.2 or 3.0. MCS does not ship with EXTRA! X-treme 9.0, but you can deploy EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 with an existing MCS installation.
Note: Technical support for MCS is provided for existing MCS installations only. If you do not have an existing MCS installation and you require central management of terminal emulation clients, contact your Attachmate representative, http://www.attachmate.com/Worldwide/.
This technical note covers the basic steps required to add EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 to an existing MCS installation for deployment. Detailed instructions and screenshots on this topic are provided in the "Preparing to Deploy Attachmate EXTRA! X-tremeA System Administrator's Guide," which is available on the Attachmate Technical Support web site at the link below. The guide is referenced throughout this technical note; we recommend that you download it so that you can refer to it when needed:
The information in "Preparing to Deploy Attachmate EXTRA! X-treme" (hereafter referred to as the CentralManagementWalkthrough.pdf file) applies to EXTRA! version 8.0 or higher.
There are four basic steps to follow to install and prepare EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 on the MCS Server for deployment to your users:
Before you can deploy EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 to your MCS server, you must install EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 with the administrator utilities to your workstation or to the MCS server.
Reference: In the CentralManagementWalkthrough.pdf file, see "Phase I, Preparation" on page 1 (12 of 215 in Adobe Acrobat Reader) for screenshots and more information.
Note: Your installation access code is displayed on the file download page or from the following link (login required):
http://www.attachmate.com/ts-restricted/XtremeAccessCodes.aspx
At this point, EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 and the administrative tools are installed to your administrative machine or MCS Server.
Reference: In the CentralManagementWalkthrough.pdf file, see "Configuring Distributions" on page 49 (60 of 215) for screenshots and more information.
You will be prompted for your MCS Server URL and a user name and password. The user name you enter must have permission, under MCS Security (such as System or another user with Administrative privileges), to manage distributions. Once authenticated, Distribution Publisher opens.
This is where the new EXTRA! 9.0 MSI file called ATMEE90.MSI will be selected.
At this time, the file to be added will be moved to the Files to Publish to MCS box.
By default, the files will upload to a directory created with the same name as your customized MSI. For example if the MSI file is named ATMEE90.MSI the files will be uploaded to a directory called ATMEE90. Any MST files selected are also uploaded to the same directory.
If you select an MST file(s) without an MSI, you will be prompted for the package with which to include that MST.
Your packages have now been uploaded to the MCS server for deployment.
Reference: See "Configuring Packages" on page 52 (63 of 215) in the CentralManagementWalkthrough.pdf file for screenshots and more information.
Notice the packages that you uploaded for previous versions of EXTRA! are listed, such as EXTRA! X-treme 8.0.
You will be prompted for the type of distribution this is, such as a Product installation, patch or executable.
At this screen, you should see the MSI file you uploaded in the previous steps, for example, ATMEE90.MSI. When you select that file, any transforms associated with it will display.
