Summary

This technical note provides information about running EXTRA! X-treme and Reflection Windows-based products on Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, and describes known issues when using Reflection products and components in this environment.

EXTRA! Support for Windows x64 Editions

EXTRA! X-treme 9.0 supports Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, and Windows Vista 64-bit editions. For information about system requirements and supported 64-bit processors, see the product documentation at http://docs.attachmate.com/extra/x-treme/9.0/documentation/guide_extra/productguide.htm#content/reqs_ov.htm.

Any associated product updates, if necessary, will be made only to the current version of EXTRA! X-treme. Attachmate does not plan to test or maintain earlier versions of EXTRA! for use on Windows x64 Editions.

Reflection Support for Windows x64 Editions

Beginning with version 14.0, the following Reflection Windows-based 32-bit applications support Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition.

• Reflection for HP
• Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS
• Reflection for IBM
• Reflection X (Note: See next section regarding native 64-bit support.)
• Reflection FTP Client
• Reflection for Secure IT Windows Client (version 6.1)

Any associated product updates, if necessary, will be made only to the current version of Reflection. Attachmate does not plan to test or maintain earlier versions of Reflection for use on Windows x64 Editions.

Native 64-bit Support for Windows x64 Editions

The following Reflection products provide native 64-bit support.

Reflection for Secure IT

Beginning in version 7.0, Reflection for Secure IT Windows Server includes a 64-bit server for x86-64 (on AMD x64 and Intel EM64T). Download and install the Reflection for Secure IT Windows Server x86-64 file from the Attachmate Download Library for 64-bit support.

Reflection 2008

Reflection for IBM 2008, Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS 2008, and Reflection Standard Suite 2008 use the 64-bit .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime on Windows 64-bit operating systems. (The Reflection 2008 setup.exe installer automatically installs the 64-bit .NET Framework on Windows XP x64 Edition if necessary; see Technical Note 2383 for more information.)

Reflection for IBM 2007

Reflection for IBM 2007 uses the 64-bit .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime on Windows 64-bit operating systems. (The Reflection 2007 setup.exe installer automatically installs the 64-bit .NET Framework if necessary; see Technical Note 2218 for more information.)

Reflection X

Beginning in version 14.0, a native 64-bit version of Reflection X for x64 Edition is also provided with Reflection X and Reflection Suite for X. Reflection X for x64 version 14.0 is designed to work with systems running Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, and beginning in Reflection X 14.0 SP2, Windows Vista 64-bit editions. Although 32-bit Windows applications can run on these platforms, only a native 64-bit application such as Reflection X for x64 can take full advantage of their architecture, which processes more data per clock cycle, allows greater access to memory, and speeds numeric calculations.

Note the following:

• Reflection X for x64 includes the following native 64-bit applications:
  • Reflection X
  • Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS
  • Reflection FTP Client
• The native 64-bit applications are only provided with Reflection X and Reflection Suite for X.
• The native 64-bit applications are a separate installation option. To install, select "Reflection X for x64" from the Install Reflection list during the Reflection Suite for X or Reflection X product installation (as shown below).

• After installing the 64-bit applications, for subsequent service pack updates, you must obtain and install the service pack specifically for Reflection X for x64. For more information, see Technical Note 2127.
• Reflection X 2008, available separately from Reflection X, is Java-based (not a native Windows-based product) and includes support for 64-bit operating systems with 64-bit Java 6 SE runtime environment (JRE). For more information about Reflection X 2008, see Technical Note 2256.

Products and Components with Known Issues

The following product has known issues with Microsoft Windows x64 Editions.

Reflection NFS Client

Reflection NFS Client is currently not supported under Microsoft Windows x64 Editions. If you attempt to install Reflection NFS Client on this platform, an error is displayed: "The NFS Client cannot be installed on Windows Vista or 64-bit platform."
