Beginning in version 13.0, you can create or edit Reflection X profiles using the Reflection X Profiler. In earlier versions, this functionality was not available through the user interface. Also, starting in 13.0.2, administrators can use the Reflection X Profiler to remotely create, edit, or troubleshoot Reflection X profiles on remote desktops.
The Reflection X Profiler is part of the Reflection Administrator's Toolkit. To install the Reflection Administrator's Toolkit, start the Reflection X installation and select Reflection Administrator's Toolkit from the list of available installation modules.
Once the Administrator's toolkit is installed, to access the Reflection X Profiler, click Start > Programs > Reflection > Administrative Tools > X Profiler.
The following three X Profiler action options are shown:
This option is dimmed because it is available only when accessing the X Profiler from within the Customization Manager.
This option is selected by default when accessing the X Profiler from the Windows Start menu or a shortcut.
This feature is available in Reflection X version 13.0.2 or higher and enables administrators to edit or troubleshoot profiles on end-user's computers. (In earlier versions, this option is dimmed.)
The name and location of the current profile are displayed in the upper half of the dialog box. By default, the Profiler selects the profile that is in your Reflection Administrator Toolkit folder (for example, C:\Program Files\Wrq\RToolkit\Rx.ini).
By default, the local Reflection X profile is loaded in the X Profiler. To edit the local profile, make your changes on the Features and Settings tabs, return to the General tab, and then click Save As to save the profile to a folder of your choice. At run-time, Reflection X searches for the profile in the following folders, and in the following order of precedence:
The Reflection X Profiler can also be used to create or update remote user Reflection X profiles.
Note: Reflection X Profile settings are stored per machine, not per user.
Reflection uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to access the remote X profile. To use this feature, WMI must be installed and configured on the administrator and end user computers. WMI is pre-installed on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
To remotely edit Reflection X profiles, your network must be configured to permit Microsoft WMI remote access. For information about configuring computers for WMI access, see Microsoft's web site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/securing_a_remote_wmi_connection.asp.
Follow these steps to create or edit a remote user profile.
Note: If you are unable to access the remote computer by computer name, try the following:
When you click load, Reflection uses WMI to obtain a copy of the remote computer's Reflection X profile, rx.ini. Depending on the speed of your network and systems, this may take a while, an hourglass is displayed while this file is being obtained. Once the file has been copied locally, the name and location of the file are displayed in the Profile and Location fields (upper-half of the Reflection X Profiler window).
Note: In version 13.x, the help documentation for this feature states that you must specify a port number, or the value of the RemoteConfigurationPort keyword is used. This is incorrect. No port number is needed.
The edited profile is copied back to the remote machine. If Reflection X is running on the remote machine, Reflection X must be closed and restarted before the profile changes are applied.
Note: The View XML feature is not yet fully functional. In future versions, clicking this button will copy the xml log file, rxconfigdump.xml, from the remote workstation to the local administrative machine. At this time, only the default log file is obtained.
