Reflection for the Web 2008
Summary
This technical note describes how to upgrade an evaluation copy of Reflection for the Web 2008 to a licensed copy and describes the steps you must take to retain your Tomcat/IIS integration, metering, and security proxy settings are listed.
When installed to the same location, Reflection for the Web settings are automatically migrated from the evaluation copy to the licensed copy. However, user preferences and macros are not preserved during the upgrade process because they are stored on users' computers. These settings must be manually recreated.
This note includes the following topics:
Retaining Your Settings
You must take specific steps to retain your Tomcat/IIS integration, metering, and security proxy settings.
To retain your Tomcat/IIS integration settings, follow these steps:
- Backup the following modified files:
<Tomcat Folder>\conf\server.xml
<Tomcat Folder>\webapps\rweb\WEB-INF\web.xml
<Tomcat Folder>\conf\ntiis\workers.properties
<Tomcat Folder>\conf\ntiis\uriworkermap.properties
- Stop IIS.
- Uninstall Reflection for the Web evaluation software. The steps to uninstall differ depending on how the evaluation copy was originally installed. See the appropriate section under Upgrading the Evaluation Copy.
- Install Reflection for the Web shipping version.
- Stop Reflection Server from Windows Services. (The installer starts it automatically.)
- Restore the modified ISAPI files from backup.
- Restart Reflection Server from Windows Services.
- Restart IIS.
To retain the metering settings, make a copy of the <Tomcat Folder>\webapps\rwebmeter\WEB-INF\web.xml file.
To retain security proxy settings, make a copy of the server.properties file (\security proxy\conf).
Disabling Replication Before You Upgrade
If you have server replication enabled in your environment, you must disable replication before you upgrade Reflection for the Web.
- Configure the master server and each slave server as a standalone server.
- Upgrade all servers, per the instructions below.
- Configure the master server to master mode and define the slave servers.
- Configure the slave servers to slave mode and point each slave server to the master server.
Upgrading the Evaluation Copy
To upgrade from an evaluation version to a licensed version, you must uninstall the evaluation copy of Reflection for the Web and install the licensed copy. The steps to uninstall differ depending on whether the evaluation copy was originally installed using an automated installer or archive files.
To upgrade Reflection for the Web, follow the steps for the installation method you used to install the evaluation copy.
If you used the automated installer:
- Go to the Add/Remove Programs folder in Windows Control Panel.
- Select the Reflection for the Web entry and click Remove.
- Navigate the Uninstall Wizard until you are prompted to "Select the features of Reflection for the Web you would like to uninstall." Components selected on this dialog box will be uninstalled.
- Select all components.
Note: If the Emulation & Administration, Servlet Runner, Metering Server, and Security Proxy components are all installed on the same machine, we recommend that you uninstall and upgrade all components. However, if the Metering Server or Security Proxy components are installed on a different machine than the Emulation & Administration and Servlet Runner components, you need not uninstall or upgrade the Metering Server or the Security Proxy.
- Continue through the Uninstall Wizard until the uninstall is initiated.
- When the uninstall is complete, follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to install the licensed version of the Reflection for the Web management server (Emulation & Administration). Install the licensed version to the same location where the evaluation copy was originally installed.
- Restore the files you saved in the steps performed in the Retaining Your Settings section above.
If you used archive files:
- Navigate to the location where the Reflection for the Web management server is installed.
- Delete the contents of the folder where the management server is installed. For example, if you installed the evaluation copy to the default location using the supplied servlet runner, navigate to \ReflectionServer\jakarta-tomcat-[version]\webapps and delete the contents of the \rweb folder.
- Extract the rweb.war file from the CD (licensed copy) into the empty \rweb directory (or equivalent). To install on UNIX or Linux, see Technical Note 1699.
- Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to install rweb.war. Install the licensed version to the same location where the evaluation copy was originally installed.
If you used a servlet runner other than the one supplied with Reflection for the Web (Jakarta's Tomcat), see the documentation for that servlet runner for installation information.
- Restore the files you saved in the steps performed in the Retaining Your Settings section above.
