This technical note describes the features and enhanced functionality offered in Verastream Host Integrator (VHI) version 6.5.
Verastream Host Integrator 6.6 was released in September 2008. For a list of new features, see Technical Note 10080.
New features and enhancements in Host Integrator version 6.5 include the following.
Verastream Host Integrator 6.5 includes a JCA (Java EE Connector Architecture) Resource Adapter for Java EE applications and components to connect to Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) such as IBM WebSphere or BEA WebLogic.
This adapter offers better performance, security, and ease of use than having Java EE components contact the EIS directly. With the JCA Resource Adapter, the Java EE server can manage life cycle and resources through a common administrative model. Verastream Web Builder supports Enterprise Java Bean projects to generate EJBs that use the JCA Resource Adapter.
The Verastream Interface for BizTalk Server, previously available as a separate product, is now integrated into the Host Integrator Development and Server Kits. Use the Host Integrator BizTalk Interface to link Microsoft BizTalk projects to data and logic residing in IBM Mainframe, AS/400, HP, and VT hosts. You can design and execute BizTalk Orchestrations that access host applications without leaving the BizTalk environment. For more information, see http://www.attachmate.com/docs/verastream/vhi/6.5/help/designtool/BizTalkInterface.html.
You can install the Host Integrator server on Windows platforms, Sun Solaris, Red Hat and SUSE Linux platforms, and IBM AIX. For more information on platform support, see Technical Note 10030.
Web Builder includes the following enhancements.
A developer can incrementally enhance applications generated by Web Builder and the associated model. For example, an application developer, starting with an empty model that contains only connection information, can build a usable Web Builder application, add entities and procedures to the model, and implement them in the application.
The Design Tool in version 6.5 provides greater flexibility in component definitions with extensive support for regular expressions. You can use regular expressions when defining a pattern for screen recognition, normalizing or "scrubbing" attribute values, determining recordset termination, filtering out records, or defining a condition. For more information, see http://www.attachmate.com/docs/verastream/vhi/6.5/help/designtool/dt_reg_expressions.html.
You can configure a model to use Telnet SSL with IBM hosts for encryption and use public key and private key authentication as required by the host. For more information, see Technical Note 10068.
Additional national character set support has been added for IBM terminal models. Cyrillic, Eastern European, Greek, Thai, and Turkish character sets have been added for 3270 and 5250 models, and Baltic has been added for 3270 models. For more information, see http://www.attachmate.com/docs/verastream/vhi/6.5/help/designtool/dt_faq.html#gen6.
There is also support for adding customized character sets. For more information, see http://www.attachmate.com/docs/verastream/vhi/6.5/help/designtool/_custom_codepage.html.
Maintained customers are eligible to download the latest product releases from the Attachmate Download Library web site. For more information on using the Download Library, see Technical Note 0200.
When you run the downloaded Verastream Host Integrator Windows Server or Development Kit, you are prompted for a Location to Save Files. This is a directory for unpacking the installation files, by default on the local C: drive.
Note: The Location to Save Files must be on a local drive or mapped network drive letter (not a UNC path).
After the installation files are unpacked, the Setup program starts automatically.
For information regarding upgrading an existing installation on Windows, see Technical Note 40031. For additional installation information, see the Installation Guide at http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/vhi.html.
When the installation completes, you may wish to delete the directory that was created for unpacking the installation files.
Unpack the downloaded Server Kit file using the tar xvf command on your Linux/UNIX system.
For information regarding upgrading an existing installation on Linux/UNIX, see Technical Note 40030. For more information on running install.sh, see the Installation Guide at http://support.attachmate.com/manuals/vhi.html.
