Symptoms
Unable to create APPN node trace as normal UserTrace files are written to write-protected program directory by default
Error: "Failed to Create Empty Document"
Error occurs starting the APPN Node
Fix
REGISTRY WARNING:WARNING: Always back up the registry files before editing the registry. Refer to Microsoft documentation on how to properly complete a registry backup for your operating system. The backup may be needed to recover the operating system if changes to the registry adversely affect it. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Resolution: to change the path for the APPN Node trace file, edit the following Registry setting:
HKLM\Software\Attachmate\EXTRA!\Workstation User\Preferences\APPN Node Settings\APPN Trace Path
Change the value of "APPN Trace Path" to any other directory, where the Normal user has RW-access.
